Mixed Week Ahead
The coming week is set to deliver quite a mixture of weather conditions with further spells of rain at times but also some drier and brighter intervals, especially later in the week. The first half of the week is likely to be unsettled, especially on Tuesday. Some showers across the west on Monday will steadily move east while then combining with an area of low pressure developing to the southwest. A wet and windy day is expected across many areas on Tuesday as a result. The remainder of the week will see high pressure become a feature of the weather especially across the south, so some drier and brighter conditions are expected here on Wednesday and Thursday. A developing low pressure to the west will introduce more unsettled conditions however by the end of the week, especially to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Wet & Windy
It's yet another very wet day across parts of the UK as low pressure dominates the weather across many parts during the course of Saturday. Outbreaks of heavy rain are expected across a large portion of England, Wales and Ireland during the remainder of Saturday and there will also be some strong winds at times, especially across the south. Clearer and colder conditions are expected to sink southwards into parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland overnight and here a chilly night is expected with perhaps a ground and air frost in some sheltered spots. Further south across England and Wales it will be cloudy with continued spells of rain and this sets up the scene for Sunday with further heavy rain across England and Wales but drier, colder and sunnier conditions across the north, so quite a split in the conditions during Sunday.

Weekend Outlook
Low pressure has certainly taken over since the high pressure of last weekend and at the moment the up coming weekend is likely to be unsettled across many parts. A brief ridge of high pressure looks set to move across the British Isles during the course of Friday night and into Saturday, this could lead to the first significant frost across a large portion of Northern England and Scotland. Rain across Ireland initially on Saturday is then set to sweep across all parts during the day, the east staying the driest for longest. A mixture of sunshine and showers is set to return for Sunday. So all in all an unsettled and autumnal weekend is expected.

Cold Northerly
After some very wet weather indeed across parts of the British Isles yesterday the weather is set to remain unsettled with a mixture of sunshine and showers across many parts during the remainder of the week. A deep area of low pressure just to the east of the British Isles and high pressure to the west will lead a chilly northwesterly or northerly air flow in the coming days. This is likely to produce a distinct chill in the air, especially by night and in any showers. Some showers may turn wintry over the Scottish hills during the course of Thursday and Friday as some more significant colder air briefly digs southwards into Scotland. So a mixture of sunshine and shower it is for many, despite the sunshine it is going to feel rather chilly across all parts.
|
Wet 'n Wild
After a long period of settled conditions thanks to high pressure, the coming week is set to see an abrupt and quite stormy change to the weather. Autumn in the British Isles is often a period of extremes and highly changeable conditions and the comparison between the current and recent weather and that of this coming week is going to be large. Low pressure is set to sweep in across many parts during the first half of the week bringing showers or longer spells of rain for many areas, especially across the northern and western parts of the UK. It is Wednesday that is of some concern in association with some very strong winds indeed, gales are possible for some in what is expected to be quite a stormy day, again especially compared to recently. The end of the week sees the winds swing into the north or northwest ushering in some rather chilly conditions indeed and also further showers or longer spells of rain. Some real autumn weather is just around the corner!...

Changes Ahead
After a very high pressure dominated second half of September the arrival of a new month is set to bring a change in the weather as well, a change that looks set to bring in autumn well and truly. The high pressure we have been experiencing for several days now is expected to clear away into the early part of next week as low pressure becomes the dominant feature. As a result we are expecting the opening days of October to be cool, wet and perhaps rather windy at times as well, especially across the northern half of the UK. The general outlook into the opening week of October is an unsettled one, so make the most of the current settled conditions they are about to come to an end as we move into the second autumn month.

Autumnal Weekend
After a good week or more of high pressure dominated weather the coming weekend is set to see further high pressure and generally settled conditions for many parts. There is a fly in the ointment in the form of a weakening weather front which will approach Scotland and Northern Ireland during Saturday bringing thicker cloud here and some patchy light rain and drizzle. This frontal system is then expected to slowly sink southwards throughout the remainder of the weekend. Any rain or drizzle is likely to fizzle out and all it will bring further south is more extensive cloud into Sunday. Best of the weather for England and Wales is expected on Saturday ahead of the front and Sunday will see brighter conditions behind the front across the north, it will continue to be chilly by night under any clear skies, especially through Friday night and into Saturday morning. Further mist and fog is also expected. Slip on a jacket and get outside and enjoy another fantastic autumn weekend weather...make the most of it, the weather is set to change next week!...

Settled Week Ahead
Well it was a glorious weekend across many parts of the UK, but as ever there is always an exception and parts of Scotland were quite cloudy at times, that being said for the majority the weather was fantastic and generally the settled conditions are set to continue. Monday is slightly different because we have a cold front moving down the east of the UK bringing some showers or patchy rain, this will continue throughout the remainder of the day and in general a lot more cloud is expected for England and Wales than in recent days. The remainder of the week will see high pressure dominate the weather, the best of the sunshine being reserved for the north and west of the UK while it is cloudier generally across the south thanks to a chilly northeasterly wind for a while, this may produce a scattering of showers as well for parts of the south. The longer term outlook sees high pressure persist, next weekend is looking glorious at the moment and even into the following week high pressure looks set to play a part in the weather. Shame all this high pressure didn't arrive 8 weeks ago or so, still, beggars can't be choosers!..

Anticyclonic Persistence
It has been a long time coming, but now that high pressure has finally arrived it looks set to stay. We are able to say with moderate to high confidence that the whole of next week will be dominated by high pressure, meaning further settled weather with some excellent spells of autumn sunshine but also some chilly nights, mist and fog. It is quite remarkable how such a prolonged period of the summer was low pressure dominated then as we enter into September and within the space of a couple of weeks the weather has completely changed. A clear example to us all of how changeable and fickle the weather in the UK can be. So if you've been waiting all summer for some prolonged dry weather and some sunshine the rest of September looks set to deliver just that.

Autumnal Delights
Well it's Friday again and time to take a look at the weather for the coming weekend and thankfully a settled weekend is in store for many as high pressure continues to dominate. The problem with the coming weekend is cloud amounts and distribution. Often during times of high pressure forecasters spend a frustrating amount of time chasing cloud around as it can mean the difference between some glorious autumn sunshine or grey overcast skies. It would seem that weak weather fronts will continue to push into parts of the far north and west of the UK over the weekend meaning more cloud here and perhaps some patchy light rain or drizzle at times. Elsewhere a dry, bright or sunny weekend is expected with just variable amounts of cloud. It will feel very pleasant indeed in light winds and some sunshine, by night however under clear skies some chilly temperatures are expected and there will be some mist and fog as well. All in all a great weekend for many, so slip on a jacket and get outside!...

High Pressure Honest
Despite what you may think the weather is primarily being dominated by high pressure, you wouldn't have thought it mind if you look back over the last few days... We discussed on Sunday that an area of low pressure would become 'trapped' within the high pressure and that has certainly been the case, it has brought a lot of cloud, some rain and drizzle and disappointing amounts of sunshine for many. The improvement is coming but it will be a rather slow one. A lot of cloud is expected to today but generally it should begin to break up more than previous days with more in the way of bright or sunny spells for some this afternoon. A chilly night is expected tonight with some mist and fog under continued clearing skies. The latter half of the week finally sees any remnants of the low pressure dissolve away and high pressure then rules the roost completely across all parts so expect more in the way of sunshine for many to end the week. Beneath any clear skies by night it will be chilly with a risk of mist and fog which may be slow to clear in places.

Mid-month Rundown
Where do these weeks keep going to hey?...We are verging on the middle of September already and generally the first half of the month has carried on from where the majority of the summer finished, on a very unsettled note!... As discussed above the coming week or the middle part of the month looks set to see a change to more settled conditions for many and that change looks like dominating a large portion of the middle of September, however the theme for the latter half of the month is for unsettled conditions to return. Here at Metcheck HQ we are not just looking at the weather within the coming days but we spend a lot of time analyzing a particular type of forecast data called ensembles. These fantastic pieces of forecasting information allow us to judge the potential for unsettled or settled conditions, cooler or warmer conditions within the medium to long term. Unfortunately despite high pressure in the coming week or so, there is reasonable agreement for low pressure to return into the final third of September meaning wet conditions returning and there is very little chance at the moment of any late warmth either

East - West Split
Well it's been a long time coming but the outlook is primarily high pressure dominated, the unsettled pattern of recent weeks and months looks set to break for some considerable time this coming week and also perhaps into next weekend as well...there is however always an exception... The exception during the first half of the week is a weak area of low pressure that sort of gets trapped within the high pressure area. What this is set to do is produce a lot of cloud and some rain or drizzle to western parts of the UK during the first half of the week, with Ireland at greatest risk. The further east you are the nearer you will be to a large area of high pressure over Scandinavia and further away from the low pressure across the west. A weak weather front sinking southwards later in the week may well bring some thicker cloud to parts of the north, but all in all a lot of dry and settled weather is expected this coming week. Temperatures are set to be close to average if not slightly below so still pleasant in any sunshine by day but a few chilly nights are to be expected and as the picture to the right displays some mist and fog is a certainty for parts of the country as well. If you're lucky enough to escape the damp weather across the west this week, you'll likely to enjoy a run of fine and settled weather that hasn't occurred in a long time!...

Troublesome Ike
Hurricane Ike is now winding itself up within the Gulf of Mexico as parts of Texas and surrounding areas prepare themselves for a direct hit. Ike has been struggling to develop somewhat over the last couple of days. The interaction with Cuba weakened the system to a category 1 hurricane. Since that time Ike's inner structure has been struggling to regain proper organisation for significant development, however recent satellite images are showing a growing organisation. One of the problems with Ike is the size of it, it's huge! The hurricane on satellite images almost covers the entire Gulf of Mexico, it is this problem of its size that will spread hurricane and tropical storm force winds over a very large area, not only that the storm surge associated with Ike is expected to be spread out over a very large area as well. If Ike continues to organise further before landfall then 'he' is expected to make landfall as a borderline category 3 (major) hurricane with winds gusting up to 120 to 130mph. Depending on subsequent developments parts of Texas, especially the coastal regions could be damaged in a very severe way indeed.

Scandinavian High
It’s not often weather fronts approach from the east of the UK, the primary reason for this to happen is because of easterly winds and easterly winds often arrive thanks to high pressure over Scandinavia and that is what is expected this coming weekend. Despite quite a marked rise in surface pressure as this weekend progresses the weather will unfortunately be disappointingly damp and cloudy. Frontal systems across the east are expected to make steady progress westwards over the weekend bringing some rain and drizzle to many northern and eastern areas on Saturday. Further south some drier and brighter conditions are expected. By Sunday it will be the west that is mostly cloudy with some patchy light rain or drizzle while it turns drier and perhaps brighter from the east. Beneath the cloud, rain or drizzle temperatures will be depressed and it will feel rather cool, in contrast in light winds and any sunny spells it will feel pleasantly warm. Any clear skies at night will likely lead to a risk of some autumnal mist and fog patches as well. Overall it is a perfect example of how a rise in pressure doesn't always signal dry and sunny conditions. Outlook into next week is currently for further high pressure and predominantly settled conditions, hurrah we hear you cheer!... Have a great weekend from everyone at Metcheck.

Here Comes "Hanna"
About, oh, 5 or 6 days ago there was a tropical storm moving into the southeast region of the USA, this particular storm was called tropical storm Hanna. Thanks the wonders of Mother Nature, the remnants of Hanna are now knocking on the doorstep of the UK... The mid-week period will be dominated by a deepening and powerful North Atlantic low pressure system that, as mentioned above, will contain the remnants of what once was a tropical storm. Thickening cloud across the west of the UK during the course of Wednesday morning will herald the arrival of some heavy outbreaks of rain to the west along with some increasingly strong winds. As the day progresses so the strong winds and heavy rain make steady progress further east and north, it will be a slow process with the rain not clearing the east of the UK until midday on Thursday. We are then left with a mixture of sunshine and showers to end the week on a quieter note. So if you hear the wind and rain lashing against your bedroom window tonight, just give a thought as to where it all started from...a small grouping of thunderstorms in the tropical Atlantic...

Unsettled Week Ahead
It's been an eventful couple of days to say the last with regards to the weather with some very heavy rain and flooding across large portions of the UK in recent days. Unfortunately for those who have experienced some flooding further heavy rain in the coming days isn't going to help matters. The coming week will be generally unsettled as areas of low pressure approach and then cross the UK bringing showers or more prolonged spells of rain. One particular feature is expected on Tuesday with further large rainfall totals possible across the west and north of the UK, an early warning has been issued for this. Another low pressure is then expected to approach from the southwest later in the week so further spells of rain and strong winds are expected, especially across the north and west. The horrendously wet summer weather is most definitely continuing into September...

Rain, Rain & More Rain
If you're just waking up we recommend you don't open the curtains, it's not pretty out there!... As forecast earlier in the week the very unsettled conditions at the end of the week have arrived in true style. A huge area of moderate and heavy rain is now slowly progressing northwards across all parts of England and Wales. Some very heavy rain is in evidence across parts of southwest England and Wales. The unsettled conditions are expected to persist throughout the coming weekend. The low pressure is set to grind to a halt over England this weekend with persistent rain expected over Northern England leading to a risk of some localized flooding here. Elsewhere a mixture of sunshine and showers are expect |
